Annual Mass 2013

The annual Mass was a great success. Even though we had a few showers, we were still able to proceed with the Mass. A heavy shower around 7 pm was on the point of making us consider moving the Mass to the Church but thankfully, it cleared and despite another small shower, we were able to go ahead with the outdoor event. Thanks to all those who helped us in preparing for the Mass and who assisted in the Mass.

Re-pointing of Altar.

The Altar at the Graveyard had been re-pointed in recent weeks. The original pointing was a disappointment but the new finish is looking very well and adds greatly to the altar. New flowers have been planted there also in preparation for the annual Mass which will take place on Friday July 26th at 7.30 p.m.

The Graveyard is really looking well in the great sunshine that we have been so lucky to have for the last week.

Graveyard Cutting July 2013

The last cutting took place on Thursday 4^th  July. The weather was beautiful and we had plenty of helpers. thanks to all the volunteers who attended on the night and indeed, those who attend throughout the year.

The next cutting of the graveyard is scheduled for TUESDAY 23^rd  July to prepare for the Mass. 

The committee would also like to encourage those going to the Mass to consider leaving some of their cars in the Village and getting a lift with their friends/family to prevent congestion at the Graveyard. In previous years, there has been a lot of congestion and we would like to reduce this as it makes it awkward for the elderly and the infirm on the night.

Footpaths put down in 2013

The committee has put down new footpaths in the graveyard to improve access to parts of the graveyard that were previously not serviced by footpaths and have also repaired older footpaths which were beginning to show the signs of ageing. This work has been fully funded by the committee. This work is made possible by the generous support for the annual collections undertaken by the committee and we are most grateful for that support. We would like to thank Kerry County Council for the quality of their work.

 The area around the Famine Monument has been tarred.

 This area of the old Graveyard (just inside the small gate) has also been tarred.

 Access to the Famine monument has been improved greatly. The path approaching it was in a poor state of repair and it is now much safer to walk to it.
