Duagh Graveyard Committee
Thanks to all those who turned out for our latest cutting on Thursday night, May 26th. It was a long night as there was a lot of work to be done, our volunteers were depleted for various reasons and the midges were at full throttle for the night. With 2 months to go to our annual Mass, there is an awful lot of work to be done. To maintain the standard of the cemetery, we require extra assistance. While a lot of the focus is on cutting and collecting the grass on Thursday night, we need people to pull or hoe weeds from the paths and plots , to collect litter and to tidy the plots of long forgotten wreaths and bottles of Holy Water. It is not strenuous work and is done in a very sociable setting. Our next cutting is scheduled for Thursday June 9th. If you have an hour or so to spare, please come and join us. Every extra set of hands means that more can be achieved and the high standards of the cemetery can be maintained.
Urgently calling for fresh volunteers
Wanted
Volunteers
To
assist in maintaining the cemetery in Duagh
Duagh Graveyard Committee urgently requires additional
volunteers to assist in the maintenance of Duagh Cemetery to its current
standard. After over 15 years of constantly improving the cemetery, it would be
a shame to let the standards slip due to a lack of voluntary effort.
Cutting/maintenance takes place on every second
Thursday evening. Details can be obtained in the Duagh notes in The Kerryman , The Advertiser , the Parish Newsletter or this blog.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Signage
The Committee recently approached the seven councillors in the Listowel Municipal District to request improved signage to the cemetery in the village. This request was based on feedback from visitors to the cemetery who were not familiar with the area and they explained that they had difficulty finding the cemetery and that it was very easy to miss the current sign for the cemetery . As can be seen from the following photographs, the directions do not stand out and are in poor repair. We also felt that improved signage would improve driver safety at the cross for those who were unfamiliar with the area.
We are delighted that Councillors Jimmy Moloney and Aoife Thornton have rowed in behind our request and new signage is on the council's agenda in the near future. Many thanks to Councillors Moloney and Thornton for the assistance in this matter. This will also make it much safer for those who looking for the cemetery.
To further assist visitors to the cemetery, we have also listed the cemetery on Google Maps which will be of assistance to all those with smart phones and iPads.
Cutting 26th May
The next cutting of the graveyard will be on Thursday 26th May from 5.30pm onwards. We had a very good turnout for the last cutting but as always, many hands make light work so if you have an hour to spare on the night, please feel free to call down and give a hand.

Bottle Collection at Watson's Service Station and Duagh Post Office
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the management, staff and customers of Watson's Service Station, Duagh for their generosity.
The recent bottle collection raised €227 which is really appreciated. This money will be put to good use in the coming months.
We hope to start cutting on tomorrow night to get the year rolling and we also have a few projects pending at the moment that will enhance the cemetery.
