Cutting 24.04.2014

Once again, we had a great turnout for the second cutting of the year. It was a beautiful evening and everything went well. The graveyard is looking well at the moment. There were quite a number of visitors there in the last few weeks as people visited it for the season of Easter.

Once again, we must thank all those who turn up for the cutting and those who help us in our work in any way.

The next cutting will take place on Thursday May 8th at 5.30 p.m.

The First Cut of 2014

The first cut of 2014 passed off very successfully. Looking at the weather in the morning, it seemed unlikely that we would be able to cut the grass and things had not improved by the afternoon. However, some of our more determined volunteers went ahead with the cutting and thankfully, the weather cleared up and we had a very nice night for the cutting. There was a chill in the air but that was encouragement enough to keep moving.

There was a big crop of grass and we needed all the volunteers that we had to cut it. If it had grown any further, it would have become much more difficult to cut in the coming weeks.

A lot of work was achieved last night. Most of the Christmas Wreaths were removed from the graves. this took a considerable effort as there was a large quantity of them there.

We had a great response from our volunteers who, as always, answer the text messages informing them of the cutting positively. Thanks to them for their work last night.

We also organised the rota for our Church Gate Collection at the weekend. The collection is coming at a very useful time for us as we will shortly have to replace one of our large lawn mowers. It has given us stellar service over the last 10-12 years but it is on its last legs at the moment.

Here are some photographs of the night's work. Unfortunately, we were not able to capture all the participants for photographs.

Start of cutting and maintenance for 2014 and notes re AGM

We hope to start cutting and maintenance of the Graveyard for the year on Thursday 10th April from 6pm onwards.(Weather permitting.) All help would be welcomed. Even if you can only spare one evening throughout the year, it would be of great assistance to us so please consider lending a hand.

Duagh Graveyard Committee held its AGM on Monday 3rd March 2014. Last year was a very productive year for the organisation. The fine year in 2013 was a great help in maintaining the cemetery. Additional footpaths were laid during the year which has made certain areas of the cemetery much more accessible, especially to the old or the infirm. This work could not have been done without the great commitment shown by our volunteers and the contributions from the public .

Plans are afoot to build upon this work in 2014   We will be looking to our volunteers in the coming year to give us a hand and any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

The officers of the committee are, as follows, Chairman-Tony Maher, Secretary-Nora Gaire and Treasurer-Miriam Cronin-Gaire. Committee members are Gerard Galvin, Gerard O'Connor, Matt Mangan, John Scannell, P.J. Gaire, Michael Naughton and Joe Lynch.
